  • I have been lucky enough to own horses with James and Sally Bethell for twenty years. Over the twenty years I have not only had great success with the horses I have owned, but I have also been fortunate to build a strong friendship with a great family. From my experience, there are two sides to James Bethell.   Firstly, there is the trainer of racehorses. As a trainer, James has a meticulous eye and hands on approach, combined with a natural empathy for the horses he cares for. It is this gift, of being able to understand and relate to his horses, that I feel helps him get the most out of their ability. Secondly, there is a caring husband, father and friend. James goes above and beyond with his owners and is always willing to make sure that racehorse ownership is a truly special and enjoyable experience. Furthermore, his unique wit and charm also help make a day at the races an enjoyable day, no matter what the result.   In summary, I genuinely believe that James gets the very best from the horses he cares for. James has trained me so many winners over the years and provided me with some of my most memorable and exciting days  - days that I will always cherish. In fact, some would say I have been a “lucky” owner, but I don’t think it is down to luck, I think it is all down to picking the right trainer!

  • Well done, a great feat in anyone's books!  James is the new Handicap King, achieving something Reg and Dandy haven't.  The Crown is in the post!

  • James has had a steady stream of winners from his Middleham base over the years. His horses reflect his input in one of the happiest yards I have had the pleasure to visit.
